April 2011
We were dying Easter eggs with our neighbors Marie, Christian and Alyssa. We just used a store bought kit. Every year I say we're going to dye the eggs the way we did it when I was a child, but haven't done it yet. Next year we will! I really want to teach the kids how to do it, it's really neat. And I want to carry on the tradition. We used natural dies, such as large pieces of red or yellow onions skin (the darker the better), and/or a pretty flower. We wrapped raw eggs in onion skin and/or flower, then bundled them up with a piece of cut-up pantyhose which held everything in place. The pantyhose was cut up in little squares, big enough for each egg. Then we tied a string around it. Each egg was individually wrapped. Then using a large spoon, we carefully placed each egg in the pot. When the eggs were done and had cooled down, we started unwrapping them. Each egg was different, and absolutely gorgeous!
Strawberries, strawberries, strawberries!!!
April 2011
We love strawberries so much, when we buy them at the store, they are gone the same day :)) The girlz love to sprinkle a little bit of sugar on them. Ben and I eat them just the way they are...Abby's class went strawberry picking at McLeod Farms in McBee, SC. I went with them, I enjoy field trips.
This was a good time to go, there were soooo many strawberries! Last year, we went later in May, and they were pretty much picked over. The children had a great time, eating and picking at the same time. The strawberries were so sweet, and some were huge, never seen a strawberry that big. lol Then, we went back to the main building for some homemade strawberry ice-cream, story time and a tour of the museum. The farm has its own store, and their ice-cream is delicious! It's creamy, flavorful, you can tell right away it's homemade. They sell yummy bread too, peach-almond, strawberry, banana-nut...All kinds of goodies! Abby had fun riding on the bus. I drove separately. Abby fell asleep on the bus, on the way back. Poor baby, she was tired, they had a busy morning. I'm looking forward to the next field trip, which will probably be in the fall, pumpkin picking. Hannah's field trip was the day after Abby's, at Clemson Extension Research Park here in Florence. They are learning about animal habitats. She made a really neat craft, racoon's prints.

Pee Dee Farmer's Market - Plant Festival
April 2011
We went to the market one Friday afternoon; it was gorgeous outside! Blue skies, sunny, no humidity! We met up with Michelle, Kyle and Abby M. Every stand at the market was open, plus more stands in the middle of the market. All kinds of goodies, fruit, veggies, "Chocolate Monkey" sweets, chicken bog, kettle popcorn, caramel apples, flowers, plants, fish tanks, yard decorations...The kids loved John Deere big trucks the most. They must have climbed onto them ten times! lol...Michelle took a lot of pictures, they turned out great! I just love going to the farmer markets, buying fresh food, talking to the owners, just walking up and down, looking at everything...

Where the Wild Things are!
March 2011
Zippity Zoo Da....at Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia!
Going to the zoo is always fun, if we could, we would go there every weekend! Abby was feeding the goats for the first time, she was scared in the past. She told me the goat "tickled" her hand. :) Ben was at home with daddy, he wasn't feeling well. I can not wait to take him to the zoo next time. Abby also climbed the rock wall for the first time! Last time, she didn't weigh enough. They have to be at least 40 lbs. This time she was exactly 40 lbs, I was so happy for her! She did great, climbed half way! Hannah climbed all the way to the top! I know Abby will next time too!
The gorillas are always a sight to remember, anytime we come. We were glued to the plexiglass, watching their every move. One of them was propped up on the hill waiting for his food to land at his feet (the zookeeper was on the roof). The kangaroos have a nice new home at the zoo. I love the fact that you can walk through the exhibit and watch them go through their daily routines from literally few feet away. The train is a must! The kids ride it every single time! And they always sit in the same spot - the caboose!
Our favorite animals:
Abby - zebra and ostrich
Hannah - lion and hyena
Ben - tiger and skunk
Frank - brown bear and river otter
Mina - lion and polar bear

St. Paul's MMO - 2K St. Patrick's Day Party
March 2011
A few pictures of Ben and his buddies at their St. Patrick's Day party. They mixed whip cream and green food coloring to make yummy icing for the chocolate brownies.
Pic #2 - "Treasure Hunters" - Tucker, Ben, Aiden...Now, what are the odds of all three of them picking their noses at the same time?! LOL
